Azamara Journey

13 Night Vietnam & Thailand (Hong Kong To Singapore)

Sail date: December 10, 2016

Ship: Azamara Journey

Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

We've been on Azamara before and we like the smaller ship experience. There are no crowds, it's easy to get around the ship, and the food is excellent. The entertainment is more cabaret style than big productions, but equally entertaining. The Journey was recently refurbished so everything looked new and in good condition. The entry level suite far surpasses any mini suite we've had on other cruise lines.

We went to Hong Kong, Viet Nam, Thailand and Singapore. The life styles there are very different than western countries. We visited a lot of Buddhist temples and shrines. The local food is also good to try, as long as you have someone with you that can help you choose wisely. English is also not commonly spoken in Viet Nam and Thailand so having a guide fluent in English can be helpful. Singapore and Hong Kong are large modern cities where English is spoken everywhere and it is easy to get around on your own.

The continental suite was large with lots of storage space. The bathroom had a full size tub and lots of shelving space. Our English butler delivered canapes and English tea to our room daily. It was stocked with 4 complimentary bottles of liquor and a bottle of champagne.

Ship tip

Most passengers were in their 60's and 70's. They have no activities for small children.

Easy to get around on your own, but can be expensive.

Hue (Da Nang), Vietnam

There's a lot of see and do in Da Nang and Hoi An. We used a private guide and were able to see everything we wanted to.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam

Ko Samui, Thailand

We went to a place to ride elephants through Azamara. We also saw a monkey and elephant demonstration. I didn't think the animals were being treat very well.

Singapore

It was very hot and humid and it rained hard both days we were there. The subway (MRT) is very clean and easy to use. Marina Bay Botanical Gardens is amazing.

Thanks for the great review - makes me want to try it.

Just a question about the picture - are those dark spots on the carpet a design, or wear?

I have never cruised with this company but I am sure they are as wonderful as people say that they are.  Someday - maybe.

Glad to hear the Journey is in such good shape and that your suite was outstanding! It is good know about having guides in Vietnam and Thailand, as well as to know that doing things on your own in Singapore and Hong Kong is pretty easy!
