Meh. The ship's tender takes you to a spot near the amusement park, but it's all closed until 11. Nothing but restaurants. No shopping unless you want to get a corrupt cab to the city center. Some people went to Hanoi, but that's a 3 hour drive. They're working on an interstate type road system, but it's not done yet. We took an excursion to a cave and harbor cruise. If I had it to do over, I would take the early cave trip and spend the afternoon downtown.

Halong Bay is absolutely beautiful place to go to and no trip to Vietnam would be complete if you did not cruise there. Some great sights that never stop. We did have a beautiful day. Also went to Da Nong cave which is beyond imagination, so really nice. Ha Long Bay is my favourite place in Vietnam.
