We missed this port of call due to Super typhoon Saola. On this particular itinerary, we missed our first 3 ports of call, skirting around this storm. 😕 We were at sea for 8 consecutive days without setting foot on any land mass. There was a small passenger mutiny on board. The captain threatened to have all the mutineers put ashore at the next port of call (wherever that might be). It was an ugly affair and not handled very professionally by the captain or crew.

We did a private excursion for Da Nang including a trip to Hoi An. It was excellent. The guide was amazing and very informative - a terrific introduction to Vietnam, and much more economical than the HAL excursions

We'd been there b4, so we got the shuttle bus into the market area & drank the famous Vietnamese coffee. Got a taxi to take us to all the sights that Holland America Tours were going to for a fraction of the cost.

Again this port is isolated and very far from the nearest town..you got two choices, take a very expensive shore exursion organized by the ship or risk taking a taxi that cant speak and understand english, drives dangerously and at a rip off price....Ships should provide a shuttle service even for small price to bring the people to the nearest town to safeguard its patrons!! The port is about 30km from DaNang city..or more than an hour drive..
