Jerusalem. Although seeing the Holy City can be strenuous (for people our age), it was well worth it. The Via Dolorosa is a strenuous tour, but I'm glad I went. Bethlehem - didn't appreciate first stop being a shopping place.

We chose not to do the excursion here and venture out on our own. At first, I thought that this was a terrible decision because you can't really even book your own tour. Only one cab company is allowed into the port, and you're not allowed out of the port on your own. So DON'T book an independent tour company; they can't even get to your boat! The one cab company that is allowed near the boat wants to charge you outrageous sums if you just want to go somewhere and be dropped off. What they want is for you to set up an all-day tour with the cabbie. In the end, that's exactly what we did, and boy am I glad. We found another terrific couple to split it with, and we did everything: Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Dead Sea, shopping, lunch... we fit it all in all while getting a real tour of Israel during a tough time... not the tour guide version.

Did optional excursions to Jerusalem and Bethlehem; Nazareth and Sea of Galilee. All together they were fine, except the included lunch were not properly planned. There 5 loads of buses so we have to fall in line to be able to get our food, very unorganized. Also, they took us to Souvenir Shops, where our time was wasted instead of spending more time in Holy Sites.

Again, this was supposed to be a highlight country of the trip. My party was very uncomfortable with the tour leader. I felt him to be very discriminatory to certain groups of people he spoke of that lived in the city. He was not very reverential to areas of holy shrines. He lost control of his group and caused some irritation and confusion to members of the group. We started late and he seemed very irritated by that. All in all, I did not appreciate this tour as I wanted to and felt extremely disappointed because of the fact that this was one of my personal reasons for going on this tour.

Pretty crowded while we were there (Succoth), but a unique privilege such sacred ground.
