Same thing as we told Carnival; unless you are going on an excursion don't even bother getting off the boat. We decided to visit the town, relax, walk around and maybe get some lunch. This town is 15 years behind every where we've been in Mexico; construction everywhere, beggars, hassled by vendors. There is only so many times I can say "No tenemos hambre"

Port is industrial but shops there to be browse and purchase. Chichen Itza is a long ride for an excursion but you should consider. Utilized the Carnival excursion. Great visit.

Beach was beautiful. We visited the Dzibulchan Mayan Ruins. Cenote was beautiful as well, full of pretty fish. We also paid $5 and toured the city our guides were very knowledgeable and funny.

Wife was sick, so we only visited the port. Looking out from the ship, the drive to town looked so long. I feel as if Progreso wasn't really marketed as well as Cozumel was. Lots of shops in the port which was nice, but the people who work in them were so aggressive to get you in to their shop. It was intimidating and annoying. What we saw of the port wasn't much to write home about.

Not sure why carnival even goes here. It’s a commercial port and it’s dangerous. We didn’t disembark and neither did over half the ship.

People were super pushy and uncomfortable. We took a bus to the nearest beach but it still wasn't very close. There were little kids trying to sell you junk on the beach so that was sad to be around. We bought a few things just to be friendly because we felt bad. Stray animals running around was a downer too. If you can ignore all that the beach wasn't bad, we enjoyed the sun and sand.

We did the Mayan ruins and Mérida excursion. Our tour guide Johnny was very good and we enjoyed the day. The only knock against it was the lunch. The food was definitely good, but they only included one tortilla with the meal (which is crazy) and a TINY drink. We could buy a larger drink if we wanted, but we’d already paid for the excursion and we felt like a decent sized drink should have been included.
