Quick stop, church, then rented a car to tour island, sad that Pali lookout was closed, but overall a beautiful drive through the countryside and on the coastline

We have been here many times and did not take an excursion. The Aloha Tower is mostly a college campus and mostly everything was closed. Honolulu seems to be suffering almost a blight. We took a ride to Maui Divers and were forced by them to sit in the heat for almost an hour for the shuttle to take us back to the ship. This was a tourist trap and we were treated very poorly. This is not Princess Cruises fault. The highlight of the day was walking to shops a couple of blocks from the ship. I needed some clothes and supplies and Was-Mart, not the one offered by the shuttle, and Ross had what I needed.

Wanted to do a Lou-owl but got booked up, so we rented a car and tried to drive to Pearle Harbor, Dole Pineapple store (which didn't like), and North Shore (no big ways) and we spent all day cramped in the car cause traffic was awful, bumper to bumper, so we didn't get to do another thing cause couldn't get back until 5:30 -- someone said they had a parade or something-was disppointed. We needed TWO days in Honolulu

It is only 3.7 miles from the airport to Pearl Harbor. I was impressed by what the National Park Service and the Navy have done there. It’s a very solemn experience and well done. One very important note…they do not let you bring bags in through the gates, not even ladies’ pocketbooks. You can check them for a $5 fee. My wife took hers back to the car while I stood in line for tickets. I have to say I was not impressed by the Honolulu airport. Much of it is open air (not air conditioned) until you get to your gate. We had showered just prior to leaving the hotel and didn’t want to work up a sweat turning in the car and getting our bags through the agricultural inspection and airline check-in. Some on our cruise got off the ship in Maui, one day early. They then spent several days on Maui and flew home from there. I didn’t realize that was an option. If I took this cruise again, I would probably do that.

We had more time in port which was very good. We used the public bus to go to pearl harbour which was excellent. We got the second shuttle to the Arizona memorial. Get there before 11 or you may not get a ticket and the wait could be significant. I would recommend this. After we were done we took the buses to diamond head. You can get a Daly pass on the bus and they are very easy to use and super cheap. Diamond head provided some spectacular views. Then a bus back to Waikiki beaches for a swim and and a walk along the beach at sunset. Then bus back to Walmart, grabbed some macadamia nut treats and we had a nice walk back to the shop. This time in port slowed us to be relaxed and take our time. The other ports we we racing back to get the ship by the all aboard time

Stayed 3 nights. Gorgeous beach. Street sidewalks jammed.. like NY. Hard to get into any restaurants.
