We rented a car and I loved the black sand beach and volcano national park. We had to really drive to get there and back on time.

Renting a car was easy. Volcanoes National Park is awesome. Don't drive to see the lava flow, unless you ask. Often it is not flowing so it might be a waste of time. Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls are beautiful.

I was not impressed with the Volcanoes National Park Tour. the sites were beautiful and I am glad I went, but I think other excursions on this island would have been more exciting.

Went on the hiking/nature tour in Volcano Park. A little on the pricy side, but worth the money. Only 10 people were in our group, and the guide was extremely knowledgable about the whole park and island.
