Did the Historical HIlo Tour. My mom and I had an amazing time. We went to see some waterfalls. Be prepared to walk up and down stairs for about 1/4 a mile to see the Azaka Falls.

We had nothing planned for Hilo but we were able to find an affordable tour when we got to the terminal. We saw a Japanese garden, waterfall, black sand beach and a chocolate factory.

Toured with a ship offering "Bon Appetit Moving Brunch" which took us to three of Hilo's finest homes with food service at each. We mistook this to be a gourment/foodie event because of the the Bon Appetit affiliation. IT was not. The houses, some with their owners, were great from an architectural, historical and view points. The food was pre prepared an more like tapas than a plated meal. It was tasty and used hawaiian ingredients for the most part...hardly gourment fare. Highly overpriced unless you are looking to visit three luxurious homes in the city.

We rented a Jeep and drove to the Volcano National Park and to a black sand beach. We stopped at Volcano Winery on the way back to sample some unique wines!
