My favorite port - we did Amalfi Coast by land and Sea and Pompeii. Luisa was our guide and she was fantastic. Pompeii - OMG - always wanted to see it since I was a kid and it did not disappoint. Amalfi Coast - how the heck do they get in and out of their houses??? Such a cute town. We stopped at a cameo store and also tried limoncello. LOVED THIS DAY>

Pompeji better in the morning, there is a shuttle bus every hour for 15 Euros p.P. (kids 10,-). It´s the cheapest and easiest way. Go early, Pompeji is huge and in summer time it´s hot and no shade. If you like to see Naples in the afternoon, use the hop on-off bus

Pompeii was a pleasant surprise to me...not as much left for imagination as I expected. Large rounded cobblestone streets were not easy to walk on but most places there were narrow smooth sidewalks.

We took the excursion to Pompeii and Sorrento. What a beautiful place of Sorrento! I'd like to come back here and explore more of the region like Almafi Coast and the island of Capri. There are lots of lemon products in Sorrento: lemon cello, lemon candies, lemon soap. If your cruise is in summer, make sure you have sun protection not just the sunscreen lotion. In Pompeii where there are just ruins, it's hard to find a shaded area. When the temperature is 37 degrees Celsius, you'll want to have a hat to block the direct sunlight. Take a bottle of water with you at all time.

We took an excursion to Sorrento and Pompeii. We booked through Viator and it was called "Can't be missed" tours. Our guide was Vince and he kept us thoroughly entertained. It was our favorite excursion of the cruise.

If your planning on going to Capri. Get off the ship and walk round the corner to the Ferry terminal. But a return ticket for 40 EUR pp and jump on the next available one. Much cheaper than going via Cruise excursions as all they do is buy the tickets for you and tell you where to meet/ get picked up.

If you don't want to spend a fortune on cruise line excursions Naples is easy to do on your own. A short walk from the port (behind the fort) you can find the hop on hop off tour bus. There are two routes and the one fare covers both. There is an audio commentary giving you information about things you see on your journey. Beware of the sun if you sit on the open top deck. If you like pizza then definitely give it a go here. There are numerous restarants serving this typical dish at a very reasonable price. Don't expect meat or vegetable toppings here though. The first known pizza shop was in Naples so I suppose it served as it always was. If you fancy somewhere cool and dark then Underground Naples is worth a try. There is a guided tour of the tunnels and wells which gives an interesting insight into the history. The only thing I'd point out is that if you are the slightest bit claustrophobic don't go as some of the tunnels are only just big enough to walk sideways through holdin a candle. Also if you can't manage loads of stairs then give this a miss. I hope I've given some idea of what you can do in Naples without having to take a mortgage out to pay for trips.

We did the total Pompeii and Amalfi Coast tour, both of which I would highly recommend. We did not book through the Cruise line, but rather through an outside company. Some risk there, but they did guarantee that we would be back on time. We had an excellent tour guide (Viscenso) who was extremely knowledgable, funny and friendly. and funny.
