Took the shuttle bus into the centre of Livorno where we bought tickets for a coach return to the leaning tower of Pisa. Really awe inspiring place and really busy. Be prepared for the “lucky lucky” men at the bus station in Pisa trying to sell you virtually anything, be firm but polite with them.

This was our third time in Livorno, so we decided to have a look at it. Did the canal boat trip, which was well worth it. Afterwards we had a nice drink in the centre and then back on the shuttle bus to the ship.

Livorno is a surprising town. Everyone disappears on excursions but the town is well worth a wander round. Very pretty and some good Italian fashion shopping at very reasonable prices

Took the shuttle from the shop to town. Walked around a bit and then took the local bus to a beach nearby. Not a very nice beach, a lot of rocks in the water, but a nice little quit place to relax for a few hours. Had the best seafood pasta!

On this day we actually never made it to Florence as planned. The cruise line said they were selling shuttles to go to Florence and or Pisa. However, we left the ship at 0845 and they had already sold out of shuttle tickets to Florence (disembarkation was 0800) so if you opt for this, make sure you're off the ship right at 0800. If you brave the train to Florence, note that the employees at the train station do not speak English, there are long lines for train tickets and it takes 2 hours by train to get to Firenze (Florence). However, it is only approximately 20 minute train ride to Pisa and was considerably cheaper to do,

Had a full day trip to Florence on a guided tour around the city. Did all the famous sites without actually going in to the museums. Found a willing bar in Santo Croche square happy to just serve drinks while we sat and watched all the foreign tourists trying to take selfies of their pasta and eat at the same time. Pisa have to watch out for pickpockets who pose as tourists. The leaning tower and buildings very interesting, shame about the Instagram generation who think they are the only ones who much have “that” photo of them holding up the tower
