We embarked at Warnemunde, so were able to do a lot in this area before and after the cruise. If you embark in Copenhagen, then this port is a long trek to take in Berlin or Hamburg. My recommendation would be a trip to Lubeck. Although still 1.5 hours away, it has a nice charm and great medieval sites to take in. You can easily take DB train anywhere you want to go, with a station right at the port. It's not worth paying for an excursion.

Yet again lack of information ℹ️ from the boat , we walked along the marina and through the underpass , where the railway station is , beautiful, quaint place , very clean. But apparently there is a beautiful beach 🏖 within walking distance, which they didn’t mention.

Berlin is 2 hours away. We signed up for this excursion from the United Cruises website and not directly with Norwegian. We had a small group of 10 people and this was great. However, the tour operator had a mini bus for the 10 of us and the seats were cramped. This made the 2 hour trip to and from Berlin very uncomfortable.

Our excursion was to Rostock. It was not too long and was enjoyable. The contrast between present and Soviet era buildings (apartments) was dramatic.

Warnemünde is a very fine town, with beaches, lighthouses, and fish markets. We didn't head into Berlin but we also went out of Warnemünde. First we stayed in Warnemünde for about and hour. It's a great place to just stroll around. Then we headed to Wismar, just and average place. Schwerin castle, about an hour and half away from Warnemünde is very nice. Museum shows you the life in the castle, and you can spend some time enjoying the garden and lake.

We took the train to Rostock as the station is the first thing you pass when you get of the ship. As said before only a short trip and cost 5€ for a day ticket. We then cought the train back to Warnemunde which is a nice seaside town with a clean sandy beach. A very nice day
