Nice city with a lot of history. Old buildings.... And a lot of militarystuff to look at. There is a ton of traffic, so you would have to be patient when moving around in the city.

We used TJ Travel Tours for a 2 day private tour with a van with a wheelchair lift. They were excellent from start to finish! Online communication was fabulous with quick response answering every question I had. There were no issues getting off the ship, going through customs etc. Our private tour team (guide, driver, etc) were professional, had great knowledge of the city, history, art and architecture. I highly recommend TJ TRAVEL TOURS for any excursion in Scandinavia and Russia.

Ask where to use public toilet. The Peter & Paul Cathedral does not have any.

The first day we took the Hermitage and the Venice of the North, as well as the ballet tours. The Hermitage was disappointing because we expected in three hours to have some time to appreciate the art. Instead it was a super fast walk through. This was also tiring for everyone. The Venice of the North was so great. We saw all the sites as well as time for a little shopping. The Ballet was fantastic. The next day we made a mistake and took the EZ bus tour. It left very early in the morning, nothing was open, and we saw the same things we saw on the boat trip- do one or the other. The last thing we did was the Fountains at Peterhof - the highlight of the trip - breathtaking. Be warned that the bus ride to the fountains is over an hour, but the hydrofoil back to the pier is only 20 minutes. Also, the hydrofoil back is challenging for older people. They tied the hydrofoil to four other boats at the pier and we had to walk through each boat to get back on the pier.

St. Petersburg is a beautiful city and the Hermitage Museum is a must-see. Our second day was "Chef's Discovery" tour of the market. However, while the chef from our ship was there, he said nothing. What made the tour great was our guide, Dasha. I hope anyone who does this tour is lucky enough to get her as a tour guide. She is simply the best in every way.
