We were scheduled to go to Reykjavik at 2:00 pm, but because of missing Kirkwall, we were there at 8:00 am. Iceland sits on the junction of the North American tectonic plate and the Eurasian plate, which means there is much volcanic activity. There are geysers and hot springs all over. We took the Golden Circle shore excursion, which highlighted the geology. Besides being a beautiful country, it has stunning geology. We had an overnight, so the second day we replaced the Kirkwall shore excursion with a tour (the name of it escapes me) that highlighted the use of the geothermal energy. The electricity is cheap in Iceland because of using geothermal energy, and hot water is piped to houses and businesses. Wool clothing seems to be the best thing to shop for. It's expensive, but probably not when compared to the same quality goods in the USA.

We did the hop on hop off here too - we rode it around and then got off at the botanic gardens. and walked down the hill to the Church, the shopping area and then got back on the bus and went to the museum. I would like to spend more time in Reykjavik.

Took a Mr Puffin boat tour. Private from the harbour but away from where the ship docks. Day two did the Golden circle. Lots of bus time but the Falls and Geyser make up for it.

We took a tour (guide was 30 minutes late) and saw the highlights of the area. The beauty of the spectacular waterfall, geyser and Thingvellir National Park are well worth the trip. The greenhouses where they grow mostly tomatoes indoors was somewhat interesting. It is not a must-see, but if you go there don't miss the tomato soup. They even have gluten-free bread for those who wanted to enjoy it with their soup. We chose to visit the Blue Lagoon separately to spend more time there since our flight home wasn't until late afternoon. There are great private drivers to hire to get there, or there is a shuttle bus that takes you there and then to the airport, but they are very crowded. It was much easier to navigate with a private driver given we had all our luggage with us.

Did not dock but tendered both days. The cruise port was far from downtown and the shuttles were shared with 2 other large cruise ships so getting downtown was difficult if you didn't want to walk the 3 miles. We chose to explore a nearby island Videy, whose ferry was conveniently located next to our tender sport. It is beautiful and peaceful.

The Ring of Fire ship shore excursion was terrible the guide did not guide at all. On our own we did an evening rib boat tour though Whale Safari and it was excellent - lots of whales, dolphins, puffins and other birds and animals. The guide was excellent.
