We did a self walking tour the first day from port to Old Harbour. Shuttle bus available for small fee. It’s about 6km walk. Lots to see. Do some research before you go so you don’t miss anything. The second day we took bus excursion through the city and surrounding countryside. Stopped at Perlan. Stay up til midnight to experience the land of midnight sun. Views were great.

Beautiful area. Took 2 excursions. Panoramic Reykjavik was not worth it but the Golden Circle with lunch was fantastic.

Leave the city ASAP, don’t bother with a city tour. It is industrial and dull. Weekend nightlife supposed to be very good, did not try.

Hired a private cab driver for 3 hours in the morning (US$80) to take us to the city sites were absolutely had to see, then took the 1PM Grayline Golden Circle Express (6 hrs.) to take that tour.

First day went on a private tour called Golden Circle and visited two waterfalls & also went to & walked between the place where the tectonic plates are exposed. Second day in Reykjavik, went to Blue Lagoon on Ship Tour. great place, loved the experience.

Reykjavik is such an interesting city and the area around it is beautiful. 2 days don't do it justice. First timers should do the Golden Circle Tour. (see Geysers and waterfalls among other things) If you are into sulphur baths and essentially a Giant Hottub--then the Blue Lagoon is a must also. The ship docks about a 30+ minute walk from downtown but there are usually shuttle buses. Food is expensive in Iceland--plan to eat on the ship unless you want to uber splurge.

Did the golden water fall on our own saving us 300 dollars as opposed to doing an ncl excursion. 2nd day did the blu lagoon directly from the blu lagoon saving us 250 dollars

We chose the Golden Circle excursion. It was truly beautiful. We started with a magnificent crater, then visited the Gullfoss waterfalls and the geysers. Finally, we ended at the rift separating the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. It was really incredible.

8 of us hired a guide and van to tour the Golden Circle and it was a good idea as we could stop at other sites and spend more time. We stopped for a fabulous lobster and lamb meal at Fjorubordid. Very pricey but worth it.
