We had two days pre-trip and two days in port. There is no end to the things you can do in Amsterdam and getting around is extremely easy. You can do the offered excursions or just get out and walk. The Central Station is a couple of blocks from where we were docked and you can get anywhere in the Netherlands from that station. Also, most locals speak perfect English. Amsterdam didn't have a lot of damage during the war so the history is everywhere. Add world-class museums and you can't go wrong. As for excursions, my husband did the tour to the reconstructed village and thought it was very touristy but might have been interesting for anyone who knew nothing about the Netherlands and wanted an overview. We both went to the Muiderslot Castle and loved that tour. It is a really historic, traditional castle that really gave you an idea how people lived before the comforts of modern time conveniences. Anyone who has never been to Amsterdam before has to take the Canal Boat tour - it is touristy but the only way to really see all that Amsterdam has to offer.

We arrived here 3 days before the cruise and found the city to be friendly. We did the tour of Anne Frank's hiding place which was very informative.

The train station is very close to where we docked so we just walked there and took the train to Paris. Had been to Amsterdam before and it's a great city with so much to do.

beware of pick pockets. Arrive at Schiphol airport 3 hours before your flight. It is a zoo.

Unique city, not a Christmas Market destination, but excellent museums and Anne Frank house is not to be missed.

Another COSTCO tour. Our tickets indicated that the tour started at 12:00 noon, but when we found the tour office they informed us that there was no 12:00 noon tour. The tour office did provide us with Hop On, Hop Off Tickets for a bus & canal tour. Very interesting city & tour. We had lunch in the Red Light District at Mata Hari with a variety of local foods.

A nice port terminal, very modern, helpful information desk staff will give you a map, no charge and explain how to walk to the town, this is a short walk.

What can I say about Amsterdam, it's a fascinating city with all kinds of people. I would describe Amsterdam as a bit edgy. Easy to get around using public transportation.
