I did a “godfather” tour with a private tour company and it was the best day during the entire cruise. The lunch we had in Taormina was the best food during the cruise.

Took the Journey to Mt. Etna here. Was absolutely stunning, just wish there had been more time to take the Gondolas up to the very top.

We saw the sights on a "CityBySee" bus. If I had it to do over again I would have taken the Hop On, Hop Off bus because there was a lot of waiting for our bus as several Hop On, Hop Off buses went by. The tour took us on very narrow roads to the highest point in the area with spectacular views.

A beautiful port just to explore on your own. The shops and restaurants were great and we enjoyed wondering the town. We also look a cable car down to the beach and explored the Roman Amphitheater with view of Mt Etna. Beautiful!!

We docked in Messina. Did an On Your Own Excursion in Taormina. Shops very reasonable and actually got to see MT. Etna have a small eruption!

We did a 4 hour Mt. Etna excursion, which I would not recommend unless it's simply to check the box ("I've been to Mt. Etna"). A short visit on our own to Taormina saved the day. "Next Time" we would just go to Taormina directly and spend the day there.

I think that Taormina was my favorite port (and Dubrovnik.) What a beautiful medieval city built into the beautiful cliffs! The Greco-Roman Theater was incredible and walking through the town gate before the shops were open was a true highlight. The tour progressed to Mt Etna which was erupting!!!!! This was an amazing day! We will definitely return!!!!
