Took the express train to Rome through P & O. We then bought a hop on - hop off bus ticket. Did one circular tour. Saw the Colosseum. Very large city. Saw the Vatican City.

Because you end up phisically wrecked after an international overnight flight, we always build at least one extra day into a Europe cruise. We have done the whole Rome sightseeing stuff before, so we went to a few spots that were new to us. The Villa Borghese was stunning, the gardens were wonderful to stroll through. That evening we met friends from our roll call in Trastevere that night to enjoy strolling through the picturesque district, have delicious Caprese Insalata and wine while watching the buskers and people going by. Beautiful!

Due to the distance from port and size of Rome booking a tour is recommended. I did a tour with Shorebee/civitatours.com. Great prices and the guide was fantastic. Picked up and drop off by the port. My complaint about Rome is it's always hot and crowded. We've all tried 100 kinds of pizzas... but I have to say the sausage pizza at the Melograno cafe next to the Trevi Fountain is like nothing I've ever tried.

Take the train to Rome as it’s very nice/economical. Tour the Vatican, Coliseum & Pantheon. All Amazing!! Architecture, antiquity is Awesome. We’re not Catholic but loved the visit in 2006.

Such a great city - one day I will take a cruise that starts and/or ends here. Very jam packed day - took an excursion that went to the Colosseum (some kind of strike going on so we couldn’t go in), Vatican City, and center of Rome. Had plenty of time to go inside the Vatican and to shop and explore in the city center.
