The shuttle from the dock brought us right by the train station to then drop us off far from the train and then we had to pay to ride a town bus to the train. This was a political maneuver by the cruise line and the town. We did not appreciate this.

We had been to Rome on our own a week before, the the option of taking the Train and a chance to see what we had missed was great, and what a nice way to travel.

We walked off the boat and hired a van/guide for 400E.....very personalized trip....Rome is huge and little vehicles are an asset.

Have some euros ready. Get up and out early. Take local bus to Civitavecchia train station and head to Rome. You can sight see on your own for a lot less. Buy Colosseum tickets in advance.

We paid $89 for the train transport from the ship at the excursion rate. It was a very old train that went to St. Peters train station which no one at the Vatican had heard of at the end of the day when we were trying to find it. It was straight uphill and not for those not in shape. Once there, we took the hop on hop off bus, but found it didn't get close to the sites. We didn't have time to get off and walk as we had booked Sistine Chapel reservations for 1PM. We got in around 10AM, so had we known where the train station was, we would have booked them for the morning and then had the afternoon. We only got to do that other than riding the bus as Rome traffic bad. It is just not enough time to see Rome. I would have gone to one of the places closer and smaller and saved Rome for an actual visit had I known. Luckily we had been there before, but didn't get to the Trevi Fountain, so may not get back!!!

The Panoramic Rome was disappointing because we didn't get to see the Vatican or the Coliseum -- even on a "drive-by" panoramic tour. The one-hour stop wasn't enough to walk to the Spanish Steppes (which is what we were scheduled to do) and get lunch. Many, many, many of our group were late getting back to the rendezvous point which left the rest of us in the 95 degree heat.
