I enjoyed the hop on hop off tour and the city was beyond beautiful.

Didn't think the wine tasting trip was very good value for money, but was interesting. Lovely scenery on coach trip and great guide from Trumpy tours, who had us all laughing.

Take the train into Rome. It is easy and it will get you there quicker than cars. Plus, it is a cool experience.

Would appreciate it if Norwegian offered some sort of shuttle (without an attached excursion) for those not going immediately to/from airport.

Rome is great. Did a 3 day pre-cruise visit. Civitavecchia where the port is has nothing but the ship.

A long way out of Rome but teamed up with another family to hire a minibus. The driver took us to all the usual sites and waited for us at each one.

I visited the Colosseum, the churches, the Vatican, the Basilica, the Trevi fountain. It was a lot of walking. I was not prepared for the inclines at the end when trying to get back to the coach bus. This tour is not for the weak.

If you go early for your cruise, know that there is very inexpensive transportation from the train station to the port. Currently 3 euros.

If you plan ahead (meaning like six months of more!) contact the Vatican Excavations office and get tickets to the Scavi tour. This takes you far beneath St. Peter's Basilica to the 1st century archaeological excavations to the area where the actual burial place of St. Peter are assumed to be. (Scientific dating proves the bones are of a first century male, aged 60-70.) Groups are restricted to 10-12 at a time - with only 5-6 groups a day. Tickets were only 13 euros each. O once in a lifetime experience.
