We visited Civitavecchia and enjoyed its real town flavor again without many tourists.

Historically a 5+ and most educational, but its tough to get around and really crowded. Not Rome's fault, can't fix the roads without damaging the historical properties.

Got a train from Civitavecchia into Rome, very cheap about an hours ride there and back. Walked round a little market then headed to the Trevi Fountain. If I visit again I would purchase a hop on hop off tour as there's so much to see.

It's about an hour from Rome. We did the excursion and it was $150/each person. We found out the day before that there is a train that goes into the city for like $15 and takes 40 min. Look into train times instead so you have more flexibility! Also, there will likely be many cruise ships there at the same time so book skip the line tickets.

Amazing how things were preserved so well. A must see along with all of Rome. Beginning of civilization and we got to see where most of it started and it’s ruins

While this is quite a distance from the port (1 1/2 hours), the Eternal City has so much to see. We had a great tour of the Colosseum, walked through the Forum, up to the Trevi Fountain, and found a great place to have a relaxing lunch near Piazza Navona.

We walked by the Roman ruins, looked inside of the Pantheon, and toured the Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel/St. Peter Basilica

We took the excursion to Rome and it is a live museum by itself! The pier is 90-minute drive from the city. Upon arrival to the city, we did the Hop on Hop off bus tour. We'll have to come back to do a more thorough visit. The sense of history, art, culture is everywhere! The city is amazing!
