We had a debark tour here which was listed as "St Peter's Basilica and the Colosseum" but a more accurate description would have been "St Peter's Basilica and a drive past the Colosseum". The basilica was excellent, though, helped by a fabulously entertaining and knowledgeable guide. Hitting Rome for a tour like this on a Saturday probably helped to not get bogged down in traffic, too.

There is a FABULOUS Bed / Breakfast called La Casa Sul Mare which I HIGHLY recommend as a place to stay before or after you cruise. The owners are wonderful and it's really like being at home. Not much to do in Civitavecchia as far as activities but we enjoyed walking around and having some wine, browsing the market and just relaxing. You can take a train into Rome.

I wish we'd had more time after landing to do the Rome tour with the airport transfer. We've been to Rome before, so it's okay we missed it this time. Last time we stayed in Rome 3 days before the cruise & really enjoyed it.

We did not have enough time to explore Rome and our hotel (Waldorf Astoria) was beautiful, but not close to the city. The airport to hotel was a $75 fare (however, we were duped by the cab driver). We did Disney transfers to the ship from the hotel - and ship to airport - and that was costly but coordinated well.
