Amazing city to explore and visit with family and friends during summer time! I like very much visiting the Colosseum and the Vatican just that was too hot and crowded.

Did not stay in the port. Went directly to Rome. Loved Rome, especially early in the morning. The Segway tour was great! Skip-the-lines tour to the Vatican and Sistine Chappel is a must, but be prepared that it is still very crowded.

I didn't do any ship excursions as they are all overpriced and you can find a similar or better excursion on your own. Travel books from Rick Steves give great information on all the ports of Italy. Spent a day in Rome after the cruise to see the Vatican and other sites.

Did not visit Rome as a “stop” on the cruise but did spend 3 days in Rome prior to embarkation. Rome is a GREAT city, lots to do and see but you need more than a day or two.
