We took the train directly to Saint Peters and spent hours at the Vatican museums and all. It is breathtaking. The train ticket includes the metro so you can go all day, Make sure to get your ticket authenticated before boarding or you can get put off the train.

On the included excursion not much choice--stopped at Circus Maximus and inside the Vatican (not the building). Plan ahead and pay for what interest you.

Tour guide average - too long a lunch, had to change buses several times, did not feel well treated for expensive tour

Better than OK, really. We stayed in a nice hotel on the main esplanade, which is nice for walking and has a beach.
