Nice town with many restaurants. It's a little precarious down by the port.

For those looking to truly experience Rome, a day is not enough by the time you factor in either a train ride or expensive rides into town from the port. I have been to Rome a few times and this time via ship with port further away was not fun at all and not enough time to see much at all. Rome needs more time to truly appreciate.

The last day of the cruise when we had to disembark, the tour buses went on strike. Norwegian only offered a shuttle to the "bus station" and then we would have had to drag our large bags on a 30 minute walk to get to the train station! WHAT?! In the end, there were independent cabs waiting for people, but Norwegian didn't disclose this whatsoever despite asking for advice. We worried all night for nothing.

No excursions available at this port (disembarkation). We had intended to take a taxi to the train station to get to Rome but were offered a shared minivan/taxi ride directly to our hotel from the port for not much more money (and probably less time and definitely less hassle). Feel free to negotiate this rate; we initially walked away from the offer and were given a better price as enticement. We spent an additional day in Rome (on top of disembarkation day). Highly recommend Rick Steves audio tours for self-guided exploration of the city.
