Maybe it was the time of year. The Samarian Gorge doesn't open until May 1. Maybe it was the graffiti covered "sites". Maybe it was the trash. This seemed like a fine place to stop for a day, but there wasn't much to do. We would have rather enjoyed a stop mid-island so that we could have seen the Knossos Temple and the beautiful Minoan mosaics and other items from this ancient city. However, the time in port just wasn't long enough to get there. We did enjoy talking with some knife makers, a Cretan handicraft speciality.

We did a walking tour for the sake of getting into town. We tried. It was a historical tour but boring. We were bored and instead walked back to the market to shop in peace as all the tours returned a half hour to an hour before it was time to return to the ship. We didn’t want to feel rushed.
