We used Iglesias Tour Turkey ( info@bestturkeytour.com )for a private tour. It was well worth it! Very reasonably priced. We saw Mary’s House, Ephesus, Basilica of St. John, and what’s left of the Temple of Artemis. We had a fabulous traditional Turkish meal that was farm to table for $10/person and went to a couple of stores. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. ( you can ask for Fatima )Best of all, we could spend as little or as much time in each place as we wanted (within our port time there). I would highly recommend private tours everywhere. They are comparably priced too Ship tours and they will get you back on time. They rely on it for their business to work.

The most surprising stop, we LOVED it here! So much history and interesting facts that we knew nothing about. We booked a tour guide here as well through Ephesus Shuttle Tours, highly recommend as well! We saw the city, terrace houses, house of virgin mary, and temple of artemis.

Unless you want to buy a carpet, pass on the rug demonstration. It was interesting but you can see one on You Tube and it will be cheaper.

I suggest booking a private guide for Ephesus. However, they will all suggest taking you to a carpet, leather, or pottery factory. The carpet factories are really hard sell so avoid that for sure.

Just walked around the shops which was not a pleasant experience...every shop owner was literally dragging you into their shop!
