Had a great day at Olympia. So much history and great weather. Definitely recommend good walking shoes as surfaces are uneven. We had a person fall in our group so please be aware of the walking path. It’s uphill on the way out so be ready or catch the horse drawn carriage for a few euros.

Probably the biggest surprise of all the stops, quint and typically Greek. Excellent food where we had lunch with wine and beer. Prices are reasonable, as are the gift shops.

I was worried for this one because of the shifty public transportation system, and the scary mafia type taxi described by some people. Be assertive, and get a group going - ether get a taxi, a van, negotiate a price. We got 10 people together, and there were signs of "Autobus" held high. hubby went to ask what the deal was, the guy said 10 Eur for a bus tour. Olympia site and museum is extra. After the tour, a lady got in and said they were offering a discounted tour the next day for 20 eur. These tours were through Geo Travel. Very good for the money.

We did the excursion, "Olympia & Greek Flavors". I was in awe at the site where the Olympics began. But the restaurant we went to afterwards with the Greek food and dancing made this trip. The food was great and plentiful. But the dancers made the day!!!! They got everyone involved, cheering "Opa!!!", got up and danced, women and men... together with them and one on one. The "joie de vivre" in one of the dancers was contagious!!!!! Can't say enough good things about this venue!!!!!

Olympia is great to see, but there is nothing much to do in Katakolon otherwise. Taxis cost A LOT (we got quoted 60 euros to Olympia!). In the end we walked 100m further and took a tour bus for 15 euros return for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids - 1 kid was free because we pretended we would look elsewhere).
