Easy port to navigate. I toured the island with Voyages of Antigua and completely enjoyed myself. The tour guide, Julie was great. Antigua has become my favorite Caribbean Island this far. We toured the marina and various other points but were around the local community more, not just the tourist areas, and that was great.

We did a private catamaran trip using the Cool Cat and it was amazing. Captain Wayne took us out too a more remote area of the island where we could snorkel and sunbathe and just relax. Also, very tasty lunch. Only downside was that the shuttle van had a blowout on the return to the pier and we had to walk the last half mile. Worth it, though, as the carnival parade was going on and got to see some great steel drum bands and a lot of civic pride.

Tour of Nelson's dockyard, Shirley Heights, etc. Mostly a sight seeing tour. Nice and clean port. Nice views on this tour. Saw Eric Clapton's huge estate. Nelson's dockyard is a historical area but did not have enough time there to explore. Good rum punch.

Take a cab at the end of the pier to one of the beaches. Valley Church beach was beautiful and had tons of activities for a reasonable price.

Did a tour not provided by the cruise line that was awesome, The Antiguan experience. The guide Jacquie, was awesome and it was very informative of the country and the people who helped to establish it.

Stayed in port, visited the shops and realized after the fact that this port had some of the best jewelry prices compared to the other ports.

Fort James beach is close. You can horse ride there or even helicopter ride. The owner is an awesome lady who will be sure to take care of you. The beach is great there also. Antigua has 365 beaches. How could you go wrong there?

The people are cautiously friendly but this is a typical third world port. Walk down the sidewalks carefully, there are open sewers, broken or missing chunks of the extremely narrow sidewalks that disappear completely the further you get from the dock
