I choose not to rate this port low because they are still recovering from the hurricane devastation. Everybody worked well to ensure the best possible experience for us as we left the ship and flew home.

Not sure why anyone would want to leave this place. It was beautiful. Took the Puerto Rico's Favorites tour. Tour guide was full of knowledge and knew the area very well. We went to Yokahu Tower and saw beautiful views of PR, the rain forest , waterfalls. Next stop was the Fort, a lot of walking but it was well worth it.

Did not do an excursion. You walk right off the ship and into the town. We walked to the two forts, El Cristobal and El Morro and then down the main street, Fortelezza Street, where all the shopping and restaurants are. It's all easy to navigate. One admission of $7 each gets you into each fort. Your national park pass works there too. Every other store is a jewelry store down Fortelezz St. We felt safe walking all around. There is a Walgreens across the street as you leave the ship and a Starbucks with free wifi just up the street too. Also Barrichina is a popular restaurant, supposedly home of the first Pina Colada.

We walked OSJ and had a leisure afternoon. Found a descent lunch spot and had an original Pina Colada from the original bar (Barrachina) it started in.

Been here twice now---pre and post hurricane. The stop is too short. The forts are good to visit, as well as the Old and New San Juan city tour. If you're looking for local food, try Raices,..the Mofongo was tasty!

We did the walking tour of the old fortress and it was so much fun. Lots of information with a little insight on how they lived during the days of the pirate raids. I wouldn’t want to be a prisoner at those fortresses. You could still see some of the drawings from the prisoners. We also got to walk past some of the government buildings. After the tour was over they lead us to the shopping center and we ate some local food. This tour was great on the history and proved how strong they are as a community for coming together after the hurricane in 2017.

San Juan is awesome. We walked a ton and found ourselves in the middle of some festival. There, we enjoyed some street food and local brew. We also toured one of the forts - San Felipe, I think - the western most one. The fort was crowded and despite having an entrance fee, the ranger didn't charge us. I am not sure what was up with that. I bought a custom made and fitted hat at Ole - I loved that shop and the ladies working there. I will definitely return to San Juan.

We stayed in Puerto Rico for 2 days after our cruise and loved every minute of it. Old San Juan is beautiful and rich in history. By our last day, we didn't want to go home. We are now planning a land vacation to Puerto Rico next year so that we can see the rainforest and biobay.
