The immediate port (Taino) facilities are wonderful. It’s like a holiday resort in itself, we were so glad that we didn’t book a tour at this port of call to give ourselves time to enjoy the pool, lazy river, number of tiki bars and the hammocks strung over one of the water features. The town itself is easily walked around with a number of interesting sights including the pink street, the amber/cigar museum which is located in a beautiful colonial house, the umbrella street and a cute little shopping cul de sac with a few cottage type shops that has fabulous wall art murals for use as backdrops for memorable holiday snaps.

We didn’t do excursions but in Puerto plata they have shopping, bars, restaurants and a resort swim up bar pool to use. So I wouldn’t book anything here

We stayed within the Taino Bay Port area. The amenities were nice, but it was crowded when we visited and the lazy river was not running. The entire area seemed like an extension of the ship, including the prices of drinks and services available.

LOVED Taino bay Port! Absolutely the best port I've ever seen. I'd definitely just stay in the port. We went to Ocean World which was fun but I'd skip excursions here and just visit the cruise port

You need to take excursions to enjoy the island. Cabaret Beach was very nice. The town square is okay. We also stopped in Samana and our tour to Las Teranas was wonderful
