Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic Port Reviews

The port was beautiful and had a lot of stuff to do. As first time cruisers we didn't know what to expect so we didn't book any excursions. We went up top to the bar and took in the GORGEOUS scenery and then spent the rest of the time by the swim up bar. I would suggest someone visiting this port to do an excursion as the land around us looked amazing.

Great port. If youre a drinker, their local rums are amazing. They cost us $5-7 a bottle. We cannot wait to go back. We just shopped the port area the day we went, but even the port area is beautiful.

We took the Princess excursion to the Waterfalls of Damajagua. This was one of the best excursions we have taken on over 10 cruises. You take an air conditioned bus to the park. It does have free WiFi. You have to take all your stuff with you, they have lockers at the park for $8. We had two backpacks and had to request one of the slightly larger lockers and were able to stuff both in them. It is at least a mile hike up the mountain to get to the first waterfall. I don’t like cold water but it was refreshing after the walk. Hubby and I wore rash guards and swim shorts and we were comfortable, but a couple of the younger kids were “blue” by the end of the swim. You slide down about 5 waterfalls by the end and then you have about a half mile hike back to the park. We had about 25 people in our group and it was too many. If we get to Amber Cove again we will book outside the cruise line. They charge a little more but take less people. We were able to take our Go Pro.

The port area is very clean. The pool there is refreshing and the the kids loved the zip line! We also took a beach getaway tour on another occasion. The area away from the port is definitely not as nice. There was trash everywhere along our route. But once we arrived at the beach, it was also very clean

Loved Amber Cove , done waterfalls excursion , it was a nice bus ride to the falls area , then a nice hike to the falls , then swam the falls . Really nice excursion .

We did the terracross excursion here and had a blast. People were friendly, hospitable and a lot of fun. Beautiful countryside! Definitely will be back. Oh, make sure you try the pineapple wine!

We used iguana mama tours and it was great. They worked with our large group and took us all over. We went to the cable car look out with the replica of Brazil statue. Went to a local rum distillery and had great sampling tour. Finished out day with local lunch to die for. The tour guides were awesome and friendly. The bus was pretty new and had good ac. Enjoyed the visit to DR.

We did the Ultimate Amazing Adventure with Lunch which we booked through Carnival. Best excursion we've ever been on. Our Tour Guide David was a hoot!! I would highly recommend this excursion if you're looking for things to do at this port.

One of our favorites! Second year in a row we have visited "MaMa" at La Casa En La Playa and there is no other excursion for us! They treat you just like family!

When you get off the ship walk through the gate towards the city. Make a left go on the other side of the wall, there is a very nice free beach there. There is local food, drinks, and souvenirs there. There are free beach chairs as well. Note: Looks sketchy, but it was safe. Save yourself $40 pp for a taxi and walk 10 minutes to the beach.
