While sailing solo on the Mardi Gras, we stopped at Amber Cove. Having never been there before, I decided a Carnival-sponsored excursion would be a good idea. It was. I chose the All-Inclusive Coconut Cove Beach Break for $69.99, and let me tell you—it was well worth it. Logan, our tour director, was fun, friendly, and engaging. He made the roughly 45-minute road trip to the beach feel much shorter with his conversation. He was part information-giver and part comedian. Once we arrived at the beach, the 25 of us had the whole place to ourselves. The small stretch of beach was clean, with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. The water was great. Speaking of great, Alan, the head bartender, was fantastic. He kept us with drinks in our hands, and he did so with a smile. I highly recommend this excursion.

This mountainous Island was B E A U T I F U L !!!! And the people were all very friendly. We did the Discover Puerto Plata Excursion and I thought that it would seem very slow and long because it was a 5.5 hour tour but we actually needed a little more time. This was a fantastic way of seeing the Dominican Republic and our guide" Joseline" who said to call him "Chukey" was very knowledgeable and really gave us a great understanding of the island. We got to see where the Rum was farmed and made , where the chocolate was made there and my husband even got to roll his own cigar. We ate an authentic D.R. meal which I could not even begin to tell you what the name of it was but it was a sort of chicken and veggie stew over rice, with yucca and chicken and veggies all sourced from the ranch where the rum is made. Even the chicken came from this Ranch. It was delicious ! I highly recommend taking this discovery excursion and dont be ashamed to dance with the dancers it was a very good time. Plus the bus was comfortable and air conditioned. This was by far the best tour I have ever taken it was just as described and did not disappoint.

This was my 2nd time in Amber Cove and I choose not to do an excursion. There is a huge pool with water slides and all sorts of activities to do for free. There is food and beverages available for purchase. The shopping in this port was nothign like the other ports I have been to. I believe only one major store was there and the rest were smaller local products.

Best port to bring your bathing suit and relax in the pool. Shopping is great. DONT LEAVE THE ISLAND WITHOUT A PIECE OF BLUE AND BROWN AMBER JEWELRY AND A PIECE OF RAW AMBER FOR YOUR COFFEE TABLE AT HOME. YOU WILL NOT FIND AMBER LIKE THIS ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD.

We did the Iguana Mama Puerto Plata city tour and we loved it. We laughed and danced and learned and drank and ate and had a blast with Alexander the Great and our driver Indiana Jones. They made sure to get us back to port over an hour before the ship left. I highly recommend this tour.
