No excursion. We have visited before. The Mexicans were not as friendly as those at other ports. They were just money hungry. Watch your back, money and jewelry while there. We only went into a souvenir shop there.

This port the merchants are very aggressive and annoying! Just keep walking and do not stop!

We wanted to do a ship excursion to the Mayan Ruins; we were told my husband (84) was too old. Then we tried to do the trolley tour; told we were both too old (I'm 75). We took a taxi to the Mayan Ruins and had a wonderful time.

Take a taxi to the east side of the island to get a feel for really beautiful and untamed beaches. Punta Morena is a great spot with a small protected cove for swimming, loungers, hammocks, food, drinks, clean restrooms, etc. They do want you to spend at least $5/person on food, drinks, or souvenir stuff to cover overhead, but there is not entrance fee. Drinks are reasonable. Food is overpriced, but really tasty. A taxi right from the cruise port entrance will cost $100 round trip but if you walk outside the port and go across the street there are plenty of taxis that will do it for $60 round trip. You set up the time you need to come back and they are there waiting for you. It was awesome!

Walk to end of the pier and there is a shopping area that is clean and all kinds of souvenirs, restaurants, etc. We did the beach island excursion from Celebrity and it was not as advertised- WAY BETTER! They had all-inclusive food & drink and the beach is great. 40 minutes each way to the island but the boat ride was fun. Our guide and everyone involved were very friendly.
