One of the safer places in the Caribbean. They know survival depends on tourism so they ship the riffraff to the mainland.

As long as you are with someone, I'd say you're safe. my husband and I have walked around town a few times. we get hounded to stop at local stores, but if you say no thanks, they usually don't keep bothering you.

I've been to Cozumel a number of times, one of my favorite places to visit. As in any place you go to, it's best to stay in areas where there are plenty of other people. Some vendors can be a bit aggressive. Downtown is a ways from the port, I always take a cab, not real expensive. Enjoy your time in Cozumel.

We never take a cab anywhere we always stay near the ship and port because if you get back late they will leave you
