I’m concerned about safety in Mexico. It is a long trip to get to Chichenitza from Cozumel. Anyone been there lately?

We went last Oct shopped at the port and had lunch. We felt comfortable and had no worries. Nassau is another story

Well, it may not be worth the trip and the time anyway...? From your port, you'll take almost an hour to board & ride a ferry across the water from Cozumel to the mainland, then a 2-hour drive to Chichen Itza. Then all that time coming back... it's a LONG trip, longer than you'll actually be at the ruins, because Cozumel is an island.

Went to Cozumel in August booked an excursion thru Viator to visit ruins and a beach break. Overall a great experience was not worried one bot about my safety. People their were friendly and love their country. You will have no issues at all Cozumel is safe.

One other thing to ease your concerns. Short walk to the ferry, then on mainland another 1/4 mile to a bus. then you will be on the bus until you reach a break area then the park. Not much time outside the bus to be concerned with safety.

I'd be more worried about time than safety, especially if you're looking at one of the official ship excursions. The tourist areas in Mexico feel safer than some U.S. cities.

If I remember correctly, the bus ride is about an hour and a half each way. We had about 45 minutes to explore the ruins of Chichenitza the revised the bus to head back. Never felt unsafe.

I would only go to. CHICHENITZA on an excursion through the ship. If the tour runs late - they'll hold the ship. Otherwise they'll leave you behind.
