Costa Maya was a ok port of call however wasn’t one of my favorites. To start off it was perfect getting off the ship and walking the pier but once I got past all that the insane crowds and the heckling began. I think there was way to many people and this is definitely a tourist trap. I think there needs to be a way to limit the amount of people granted at the time of my visit we had four ships at port. Overall this was an ok port I am not sure if I will be back anytime soon.

We did an excursion at Maya Chan. The resort has a nice layout and is very relaxing. Not as much of a party atmosphere, but very relaxing and I enjoyed my time here. You can do kayaking, paddle boarding, and snorkeling. They are very up front about the water and beach due to the sea grass. The service was unbelievable as was the food. They provided made from scratch tortillas and tacos, and was amazing how fresh the food was. If you are looking for a place with great service and food and to relax this is the place.

We used our $50 per port credit and booked the Lost Mayan Kingdom waterpark and zipline excursion via NCL. This place is awesome, within a 2-3 minute fee shuttle ride from the cruise port. The staff is very friendly, the zipllines are wonderful, safe and a few offer a pretty long run. The lazy river is also nice to do as are the water tubes rides.

If you don’t have an excursion booked, the area inside the port is nice. Shop owners were a little aggressive. We took a ride to the village and it was “developing”. Since a tropical storm had been through recently there was bunches of seaweed flowing up on shore that stunk. Once you get past that, there are places all along the beach for massage and you can negotiate an hour massage for $20.00 or less. This was awesome compared to $169 an hour on the ship.

Did the all inclusive beach break with lunch and I must say the food was absolutely amazing! Homemade tortillas and some of the best guacamole I’ve had! However, with the seaweed problem throughout Mexico they lost a bunch of the beach and it didn’t not have a pleasant smell. The water was very warm but did have a ton of seaweed floating so made it hard to swim. I’ll try a different beach next time.

We got off the boat and booked at the port. Got on a bus that drove us down the road a ways and let us out at a beach. A woman, Liz, greeted us at the entrance and walked us to our beach chairs. Front row! Drinks included, I paid for some jicama tacos and went swimming and relaxed all day. Watch out for the coral reef tho. Still nursing some reef rash. Would go back to Costa Maya in a heartbeat tho. Highlight of the entire trip for me.
