This was our favourite island, I wanted to go to death in paradise but was out voted by the rest of my party. We ended up at sainte Anne's beach and it was beautiful, the water was the clearest I've seen, it was excellent for snorkelling, but the fish could be seen without a snorkel anyway. The beach was rather full but not over crowded.

We kind of enjoyed the island, but it was a bit of a disappointment. We wanted to take a rental car. The signage in the port took us to the wrong place, we were turned back and told to exit to the street where we can find the car rental offices, even the port map showed them. In reality there was no any car rental facility on the very street parallel with the port. Thanks his I speak some French so after asking some 5 people we ended up at the local port, just behind the bus terminal. Obviously no signage that would direct you to this place. It is some 15 minute walk from the exit of the port. Finally we found 4 car rental offices and took a car for 60 EUR for the day. We went through the mountains to Malendure beach. It was fine, but far from WOW. On the way back we stopped at a forrest waterfall. That was really spectacular. After all we had a great day, but we expected more.

Port - ok Took the TUI Panoramic Tour of the Butterfly - Botanical gardens very good, guide was not very good, did not tell us much about the island too interested in talking about life in general, Also stopped for an inappropriate photo stop of a cemetary. Also she was 20 minutes late back to the coach at the Botanical Gardens, all passengers were sat on board waiting! Thought the 1 hour stop at the beach was a bit of a waste of time, not enough to settle or even have a snack.

We were advised that they use Euros here and we could exchange dollars at the end of the pier. While we didn’t get any, we still walked into the town with all its shops and figured if we saw something we really wanted we could backtrack and do so. This is place fascinating and a very busy place. We, however, did not feel completely safe by not taking a “shore tour”. If we were to return, we would book a shore tour or stay on the ship.

We did our own trip at the port in order to visit the town where the British crime drama Death in Paradise is filmed. We drank some beer at Katherine's beach bar and can attest that the island is every bit as beautiful as it appears.

All stores closed on sunday (even McDo). Ste-Anne beach is great but crowed. ($15.00 p/p roundtrip). Some kiosk at the exit of the ship but you better bargain with them, ex : frig. magnet at $5.00. got it for $2.00 next counter...

I wasn't sure what we would do at this port. The excursions were limited but my research also indicated that there wasn't much to do at the port area. So, we booked an excursion that took us to Pigeon island for snorkeling. The drive was about 45 minutes and went through the national park/rain forest. The drive was very nice. We went from Basseterre to the island next to it, gran terre. The beach area was apparently a preserve founded by Jacques Cousteau. Losts of family out enjoying the water. We took a boal and circled Pigeon Island several times, finally stopping to snorkel. On the way back, we stopped at Ecrevisses falls in the national park and it was beautiful. Wonderful photo stop. This was my least favorite port as I felt the excursion was over priced. But without the excursion, I am not sure what we would have done.

Nice port. Exchange your dollars, bring euros. Think you'll enjoy more and have less push back buying things. I didn't, figured if you don't want my money.... I'll go some where else. Upon reflection, I think it is expensive for them to exchange money. So... Be friendly help them out if you can. What the heck. It is the holiday season.
