Loved St Maarten as well. Wanted to go to the beach where the planes fly over but it was a bit further than we liked. However the beach we went to was great and done a good bit of souvenir shopping.

St. Maarten our favorite island. Did the island tour - heartbreaking to see so much devastation but they are so positive and will get back to normal. The people are very friendly.

Some hurricane damage still visible on some buildings but looked good to us. Beach was still good. Shops were open.

This place is still devastated form the hurricane. We saw both sides of the island and not much seemed to be back to being able to actually handle tourism. We did make it over to the beach where the planes come in. Three are only a few planes daily. Our tour guide was really nice and her van was in immaculate shape. In the end, we met a fellow Ohioan at his bar near the beach. I believe it was some type of pirate themed bar near a pier on the Dutch side.

You cannot visit this port without going to Orient Bay. There are 2 Beach Clubs open and running, Bikini Beach Nd Kontiki Beach. Either is fantastic and the beach is wonderful

Visted St. Maarten twice in 3 days on a B2B. First day we did a tour with Bernards Island tours. Would highly recommend, Got to see both sides of the Island and learn alot to, Watched the Planes come in on Maho beach. Our guide the Mailman was great. Homemade rum punch and beer provided. had Lunch on the French side in Marigot, You can notice the difference in Culture. Second trip we stayed around Phillipsburg which is nicer than Marigot in my opinion , Nice Boardwalk to stroll around by the beach, Plenty of bars and shopping to be done. Also visited "That Yoda guy" which was actually very interesting even though i wouldn't be a huge star wars fan.

This is a beach port. Most of our group did a tour to snorkel next to the airport landing strip - they said the snorkeling was 'okay', airplanes overhead were dramatic. Two of us took a water taxi to the town (the cute historic courthouse building is their ACTUAL courthouse, FYI) and explored the shops briefly then took a taxi to a less populated beach (Little Bay) and rented snorkel gear for $10/person, beach chair was $5/person, umbrellas were all taken. Overall saved money and avoided crowds, but the savings was not huge. Best food of the entire trip was steamed red snapper at a beachside place that faced the last water taxi stop. Name is escaping me at the moment. As you enter the beach from the pier, it's the first establishment on the right.

Another excursion we booked on our own. We went to the Sonesta beach resort for all day $88 a person. You had the run of the entire property, all the drinks you wanted, and was right next door to world famous MAHO Beach. This is where the planes fly right into the airport right above your head. It is an awesome experience. Don't miss it.
