Carnival Sunshine

8 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: February 02, 2018

Ship: Carnival Sunshine

Traveled as: Large Group

Review summary

This was a smaller ship. It was not the worst that I've been on for sure. They just seemed to be missing the mark in some area. For instance, if you have aM themed eatery, you should have jalepenos. If you are serving sea food, you should have lemons on the table in advance.

Ship tip

Get to the pool early on days at sea. You'll find that plenty of folks "reserve" chairs for themselves. Don't be afraid to talk with the staff if this is the case. They will remove the stuff and give you those chairs.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

We ate at Grills, had a great meal...but they didn't have the lion fish or shark kabobs

Grand Turk Island

This port wasn't that great. The people were very kind and hospitable. We took a tour via open air "train" (actually a vehicle w/2 trailers). The town was still pretty wrecked. Jack's Shack made it great. Gopher is q must to meet. You gotta try it, and it is close enough to walk to from the dock.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

The folks were awesome. We did take a tour via bus and got to see the forts etc for some nice photos. We ended this stop off with a dinner of Mofongos and Mojitos at Racine's.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

This was the best stop of the entire trip. We took a tour into the mountains via an open air truck. We got some great photos and drank rum punch all day. The monkeys seemed to be everywhere.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

This place is still devastated form the hurricane. We saw both sides of the island and not much seemed to be back to being able to actually handle tourism. We did make it over to the beach where the planes come in. Three are only a few planes daily. Our tour guide was really nice and her van was in immaculate shape. In the end, we met a fellow Ohioan at his bar near the beach. I believe it was some type of pirate themed bar near a pier on the Dutch side.
