We skipped excursions and just rented 4 wheelers on our own. Loved Maho Beach with the planes. Then went to the other side of orient beach and rented a jet ski. Nice to be on our own time and to go wherever we want.

We did an early morning horse riding excursion that was hands down the best part of the day and well worth the money. The port itself was OK but I felt the shops were a little boring. I would recommend going into the town for better shopping choices.

Our excursion was A St. Maarten Beach Rendezvous. The beach was beautiful. What was included in the tour was excellent, but our tour guide, I think her name was Milly, was not very informative. She did not even take a head count and when we were the last ones to get back to the bus, but by the time indicated, she asked if we were on her bus in a puzzled manner. That made me nervous that she did not know how many people were on her bus. We did not know her, because she did not stand up to look at us at all. She filled in her tour information by talking about her kids. Fantastic excursion; just needed a different tour guide.

We went to Maho or airport beach and it was an amazing experience. Our son went to a beachcomber closer to the port and enjoyed it as well. The airport beach area is small and very crowded but it is definitely a bucket list experience.

Can you give zero stars? Avoid the Top Ten tour. Our driver pointed out historic sites and monuments as we quickly breezed by, but seemed to focus on. souvenir spots or spending spots. Even when we had an hour inside the French capital, we parked well within a bazaar, with no highlights or directions given. We were effectively trapped in tourist hell. We arrived back too late to have any time in Philipsburg, and we were all dropped off back at the pier, including a group that had indicated that they wanted to go downtown prior to the tour. Where did we stop on a top ten tour? The frontier (border), half an hour at a beach, a tourist bazaar in the French capital (longest stop, the airplane beach/ casino, and an ice cream shop with an Italian carrousel. Are these really the highlights of the island?)
