Did not like this port. We called here as we had a medical emergency on our ship. If you do anything hear plan a tour or something. Walking I'd not advise.

We visited Martinique and walked around the city at the port, however we did not do an excursion. It was difficult to communicate with people as pretty much everyone speaks French. Seemed like a lot of people on the ship went out and came back sooner than normal. Not a bad experience but not great either. This port replaced St. Maarten, which is one of my favorite ports. Hopefully St. Maarten will be added back to the itinerary in the future.

Loved this port most. Everything was closed New Year’s Day so we just wandered the pretty streets and talked to people. I did not have any trouble talking to folks so I am not sure what the other reviews are suggesting. Prices weren’t worse here than anywhere else. Take in the city. Take your time. Enjoy the atmosphere. Be polite and respectful and you will get it back double.

I was hoping to visit the fort near the port but it was closed. There is a small city beach with no facilities near the ship but the nice beaches are a ferry ride away . The ferry dock is very close to the ship. Being a part of France they use Euros here and speak mostly French. Very European ambiance to the town near the pier. Quite enjoyed it.

Paid $7 (Rtn) to take the ferry to L'anse deL'ane, and snorkelled at Coco resort (Cost $20 if you want a chair and umbrella, but free to put your stuff on the sand and swim) then walked down the street to another larger beach. Attempted to buy water with US$ but was refused. Although I speak French, the shopkeeper was adamant that she would only take Euro's as Martinique is part of the French Antilles. She did direct me other shops that take US$ but I declined to backtrack, and instead went back to the ship for Iced tea, lemonade with my wings and a Coney Island dog at O'Sheehan's pub.

This is a very pretty/scenic port and there is much to see and do if you just want to walk around in the immediate area. We booked a snorkeling excursion and that was great. Because we docked closed to the city center, we had plenty of time to do the excursion, go back to the cabin and then head out once more to explore for a bit. Would love to return.
