I did the balloon ride on CocoCay island. I purchased this excursion on the Royal Caribbean ship and received an excursion ticket. When I got to the balloon waiting area the attendant made me fill out a form and gave me a boarding pass. Waiting time was approximately 20 minutes. After boarding we received few short safety instructions. The pilot spoke good English and was pleasant and courteous. The ballon cage held about a dozen people. The balloon rose up very smoothly. View was spectacular and we were allowed to take pictures. We were up approximately 15 minutes. Overall experience was non thrilling but nice. It was not worth the $59 fee.

Was super excited for this port. We rented a Cabanna the snorkel gear was on the complete opposite side of island. When my son asked, someone brought him by golf cart then left him to hike back. Bars although included in your purchased liquor package didn't open until after 11 am and closed by 1:30 because our day was shortened only till 3:30 due to rough waters. And the tinder ride back was quite a scary experience. Extreme waves and rough. Bouncing seas. A 5 min white knuckle hold the stranger next to you ride back to the ship.

Loved Cococay and the set up on the beach by all the staff. We walked around most of the island and had a great lunch. It is a little crazy trying to get 4000 guests to the island in little ferry boats but it worked out well. Water was warm and there were plenty of activities offered for everyone. The chickens and iguanas running around were cool.

Purposely boarded the ship as the 1st couple on board so we could pick out cabana on Cococay. Only to get to the island and have the captain decided it was too windy to tender. This was a crap decision. We were told by more than one ship employee that the captain OFTEN skips the island as he doesn't like to use the tenders. Nice,,, it was the only thing I looked forward to doing.

I'm taking this ba k to July 22nd, 2012. The island is awesome, who doesn't like a private island. Here's a little blurb about what happened while we were there:   22 July 2012 Ship Listing (Monarch of the Seas ) On July 22, 2012, severe weather on Coco Cay Bahamas (Royal Caribbean's private island) with strong winds (100 mph / 160 kph) caused the cruise ship to list at approx 15-20 degrees. The incident cased crashed dishware, emptied pools and chaos among passengers. The tendering operation was cancelled. The already tendered / disembarked passengers were brought back to the ship and the island was evacuated. This was my only complaint about this. We were on the island, we saw black clouds all of a sudden over the horizon, racing at us. (Look at the pics on my profile). The staff literally left us for dead basically. This was a no joke storm with hundreds of us just running for shelter. Not one RCL crew member to be found. Well after about 15 minutes of howling wind as 100 of us bunkered down in a bathroom a truck pulls up and to my surprise as they were checking on us there was 4 RCL crew members hiding in the maintenance closet. Just shows if there was a protocol to follow, they failed. We made it out alive, we have a story to tell, and I will still go back! Most memorable part of the whole ordeal as we hid in the bathroom another foreign cruiser with a heavy ancient says to me "take picture of me in the shitter" lol to this day I get a chuckle out of that. You never know what to expect cruising, cruisers! Enjoy and many more cruises to come for this family!

So very disappointed!!! The weather was not in our favor and we did not get a chance to visit the island. The captain did decide to venture on to Nassau Bahamas that day. We arrived around 5:00pm which just happened to be closing time for almost all of the shops.
