Saw a Bald Eagle land on a light pole just after stepping off the ship. Did not book an excursion on board but stopped at one of the tour sale booths on the dock. Bought the Best of Alaska tour for $150 pp. I think it was $200 through princess. Included Mendenhall glacier, whale watching and Salmon bake. Mendenhall was rushed. only had one hour. Just enough time to walk to the waterfall and back. It was amazing but would be nice to have another hour to see visitors center etc. The whale watching was three hours Saw several Humbacks and a pack of Orcas. That was awesome. Salmon bake was a great venue, outdoor in the trees along a stream with waterfall nearby. Food was pretty good. I'm not a salmon bake conisour but it tasted good to me. You can choose if you want the sweet sauce on it or not. Add the sauce on top of the corn bread for a tasty dessert. Driver/Guide was a local native Tlinget and very fun. Back to town in time to see Red Onion saloon and a little shopping. Fun day!

Did a whale watching tour and saw one tip of one tail. Darn critters, lol. Guess they didn't realize it was show-time. The Mendenhall Glacier was so huge. Chickened out on going on the tram ride (next time). Great shopping, friendly locals, enjoyable in every way. 😎

Very pedestrian friendly. It's primarily going to be the same t shirt shops, jewelry, and shot glasses that you find at most of the cruise ports. But if you extend yourself just a bit, you can find some hidden cafes/coffee shops. Just act like a local. The surrounding mountains frame the city nicely, which is otherwise dwarfed by the sheer size of the cruise ships lined up like chorus girls. Do not forget to stop at Tracy's Crab shack which is situated nicely on the sidewalk just in front of the first cruise ship dock....you can't miss it, just look for a very long line. Trust me, it's worth it.

The whale watching with the company called Shore Trip was excellent. They gotgot us back on time and we saw close to 20 whales. They were very knowledgeable, with a naturalist on board the boat we learned a lot about whales and their habitats.

I cannot recommend whale watching enough! What an experience! Obviously go hiking at Mendenhall Glacier, then afterwards, check out the local breweries and distilleries for some tasty beverages.

Tram ride to top of Mt Roberts is worth the time, energy & expense. Incredible views.

Loved whale watching and the Mendenhall Glacier. Everyone must eat at Tracy's King Crab Shack. Best price and best crab legs in Alaska. Allow for plenty of time to partake. We easily could have gotten left behind.
