This is a really cool place to be able to walk and stretch your legs. We walked the 1.5 mi into the town and rode the $3.00 shuttle back to the visitor's center. There's a history center, a museum where canning was done. We saw eagles and whales/s and a raven who frequents the fish restaurant where we had lunch and is waiting for handouts and a definite photo opt, he's quite handsome. Icy Strait Point is home to the tallest zip line, which sound like a jet plane taking off as they fly down the mountain at 60 mph!! Lot's of people were on the beach walking around while the tide was out.

NEXT CRUISE COMING TODAY PLEASE READ!!! Hoonah-don’t take any excursions here. There are no bear sightings in weeks the locals tell u after they take u up and take your $250.The salmon can’t come up the river for them to feed because water is so low. Waste of trip. Save ur money. Everything is expensive. Next two ports everything is on sale end of season. Salmon large box is $17 in Skagway shops.$3 tees. $7 hoodies. Do the train & Yukon-puppies & lunch included! That’s AMAZING TO SEE! Ketchikan is for shopping too & Alaskan amber beer tees $15. On ship very expensive for same tees. Beer barns . Coats $19! End of season sales. Didn’t rain once. 70-60 degree weather. Beautiful views. Don’t over pack! You just need walking shoes & tees and a hoodies. Very nice weather. Great cruise. Just first port was a joke. We overpacked with rain gear and never used it. Enjoy!!!

I like this stop. Some people complain that there is nothing there. Take the mile and a half walk to Hoona, lots to see and you will see whales spouting very close to shore.. lots of them!

This was the jewel of our cruise. We took the Rainforest and Coast Tram tour. Our tour guide was a Native Elder. Shared his vast knowledge of the history of the land and his peoples with us, and told many wonderful stories. Absolutely wonderful excursion!!! I have it on my list to do it again. The rainforest was beautiful, and the wildlife along the coast... well lets just say a Sitka deer walked within five feet of our tram. The fish packing facility, now museum and shops, was in easy walking distance from the pier. A wonderfully quiet and relaxing day.
