What We Should – And Shouldn’t – Ask Our Butler To Do

Next month, we’ll be sailing with Silversea Cruises for the first time. One of the features of Silversea is dedicated butler service in every stateroom. This will be a new level of service for us, so we’re looking for suggestions as to what we should – and shouldn’t – ask our butler to do. Thanks!

(Note: while I hope to get a few serious answers, I’m also looking forward to the inevitable amusing answers as we’ll – just don’t get us kicked off the ship!)

We do this when we meet our room steward, as well as the waiters. Not sure if it gives us better service or not, we started doing it on our 1st cruise, just because we felt it was a nice thing to do..Maybe our next one we will save the extra tips till the very end and see how it goes.. I can only imagine that a butler would require more than a few 20's. I don't know how I'd react to one, I am scared I might enjoy it too much and need him or her to return home with me to carry on their duties for me LOL

Just remember if something goes awry "the butler did it"!Big Smile

Lots of cruise lines have "gratuities included"...but its been our experience after skeighty-eight cruises that a couple of 20's in the hands of your steward early on goes alooooong way, and is most appreciated. And if you sit at the same table with the same wait staff, its not unusual to "pass the hat" at the end of the cruise to thank them....IF they deserve it. Unfortunately all too many of the crew get stiffed by cheap passengers who think that gratuity is enough...or who don't have it prepaid and leave nothing. Those people can make or break your cruise...y'know, the one you spent a few thousand on??

Silversea has all gratuities included, but we’ll still tip more to any crew member who really impresses us.

Just get ready to tip him.........something larger than a buck three eighty.......he outranks your steward...and does less....

This should be interesting. Sorry I can't offer any suggestions. A butler, interesting concept. I am so used to doing things for myself that I have trouble wrapping my head around the prospect of having one.
