TRAVEL TIPS. General tips for all travellers.

Pack a bar of soap that you like. Just in case you don’t like what is provided by your hotel or ship. Don’t want to carry a soggy mess? Shave off pieces as you need them.

Lineups. A fact of cruising from the time you board to the time you disembark. Do not sweat it. Go with the flow.

All of these have been wonderful ideas and great things to pack. But also there are some other things to remember.

Also remember to pack your patience, maners and kindness. Remember it isn't only YOUR vacation but other's as well. Use the old sayings "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and "don't sweat the small stuff". Not everyone will treat you this way but you can treat them with respect. You are on vacation, enjoy it but not at the expense of others.

I did make a mistake there, it's three to one against you. Whatever the numbers, it's not anything I want to try in order to find out.

Number five: I think you're being extremely optomistic with your two to one odds.

If you go overboard, the odds of survival are probably 1000 to 1. If the fall doesn't kill you, drowning probably will. Then factor in the ship finding you still alive and then rescuing you.

Your odds of making it are pretty slim. Two to one odds? Never!

Don't climb or sit on any railing? Excellent advice!

Better yet: Do not shout anywhere. It's rude and offensive.

* Medicine- depending on the voyage length, for minor scratches, a mixture of bandages, alcohol pads, ointment, and headache medicine all fit in a sandwich bag

* DIY- one hundred pounds one-inch magnets with drawer knobs.

I use it on my cabin door and inside the cabin to hang lanyards, bookbags, hats, shirts, excursion tickets, or anything else you might want. Amazon sells these magnets for $1.50 each. The themes allow multiple items on one attraction. be creative and fun right!

May I add one to mine? I think I speak on behalf of a lot of my fellow Activity Directors here.....

And don't run with pencils.

Seven things you absolutely, positively have to know before you cruise, which I'm sure all the experienced cruisers already know.

1. Get the travel insurance. Also check your health insurance, some don't cover care in foreign countries. Specifically, Medicare. If you have a Medicare supplement, it may.

2. Don't pack your passport and cruise ticket in your suitcase, have them in your hand. A porter will take your luggage when you get to the port, if your documents are in it, you're out of luck.

3. About six months before you go, check your passport to be sure it's valid for at least six months after you return. If not, renew it. If you don't have a passport, apply for one.

4. Get to the ship on time. At least the day before embarkation, and an hour before departure on port days. The ship will leave without you if you're not there on time.

5. Don't climb or sit on any railing. The least that can happen is you'll be banned from the cruise line for life. The worst is you'll fall overboard, and chances of surviving are two to one against you.

6. Put your phone in airplane mode or turn it off when at sea. Otherwise, you'll come home to a huge bill for the roaming charges as the phone tries to find a non-existent signal for days.

7. On the last night of the cruise, when you put your suitcases out in the hall for the porter to pick up, make sure you leave out the clothes you're going to wear the next day. You don't want to leave in your pajamas, and even worse if you don't wear pajamas.

Besides a small sewing kit, buttons. Go online and buy a bag of buttons. Throw them in your suitcase. Buttons always seem to come off at the worst possible moment.
