That much of a difference between cruise lines?

I see Celebrity and Princess seem to rank high for cruise lines. I've been on Royal and Carnival in the past and they seemed fine. Just wondering if there's that much of a difference between them, and if any are consistently worse than the others.

Looking to do a cruise around September to Mexico, so have somewhat limited choices.

It all depends on your style. Carnival tends to attract the party crowd, Royal attracts the adventurous, Disney attracts families, while Celebrity and Princess tend to be more upscale.

OGW had a great summary. Questions to consider, cruising with kids or no kids, do you like ship toys like water slides rock climbing etc, lots of energy and parties or more laid back, or are do enjoy fine culinary? All those lines have ships or family of ships that offer activities to match your vacation preference. All are priced accordingly too.

Well said.

You won't know what you like until you try it. Even two cruises on the same ship can be very different, so keep that in mind. Most of them are still struggling a bit, Good hunting

Well done OGW!....thats the most even-handed and objective opine on what I was afraid would turn into another one of those "my favorite vs your favorite (which sucks anyway)" thread.....We won't even get into the differences amongst various ships on the SAME line... learning which cruise line one prefers is like learning to shoot pool...it can get expensive.....very expensive.

For the most part there are 3 major cruise lines that operate most of the major brands. Each brand has its own style and each appeals to different demographics. Although they will all tell you they are for everyone. Carnival has their base line,

Carnival which they advertise as the "Fun" line and then they have HAL, Princess and Cunard which are more upscale and laid back and appeal to a different group. They also have Costa, P&O, Aida which cater mainly to areas outside of North America.

Royal Caribbean has their base line, Royal Caribbean and also offers upscale lines Celebrity and Silversea as well as Pullmanteer and TUI which service other regions.

Norwegian has their base line Norwegian Cruise Line and upscale Oceania and Regent Seven Seas.

Each brand and line is a bit different in what they offer and the ships.
