Sometimes ya just have to say s**t happens and laugh

So, we booked an excursion with Viator for a bus trip to Florence from our port in Livorno Italy on our Princess cruise last week. The tour started well enough. Booking was easy and communication from the tour provider was excellent. We boarded the bus in Livorno and our driver joked that we now in "his hands". Well just over half way there the driver pulled over into a gas station on the freeway telling us lights were flashing on the dash and there was a problem with the bus. OhOh. The tour company arranged for another bus to pick us up and it arrived in about 45 minutes. Not too bad I thought. On our way again. Sooo, upon entering a roundabout in Florence the driver braked hard and the bus shuddered to a stop. We had collided with a motor scooter which was now wedged under the bus. The young man was ok, the scooter removed and we finally made it to Florence. We just had to laugh. Florence was absolutely beautiful and we still had a great day. All I can say is sometimes you just have to smile and move on. Next time we're taking the train!

For your first time, probably a ship excursion would be best. Florence is beautiful but get a tour with a guide or download Rick Steves walking tour. If you’re adventurous, for a first timer, maybe take the train to Pisa. It’s only about 20 minutes away from Livorno and probably less than $10 return. Most people speak some English so don’t sweat too much. Learn a few basic phrases and the locals will be patient and helpful. I’ve made my share of mistakes trying to communicate but have never had a problem. Enjoy Europe, have fun and don’t be intimidated by travelling overseas. If you’re nice to people they’ll be nice to you as well. Enjoy!

suggested sights to see? I'm going April 2024. Book through the cruiseline (Princess) or any I can do myself? Solo traveller, first time overseas, only English speaking :)

Sounds better that the typical response: write a one star review saying how your whole cruise was ruined and you're never going on Princess again.

My wife and I both thought Florence was the best stop on our Mediterranean cruise.

Thanks for sharing. Happy everyone is alright. A positive attitude can get you through a lot.

Good advice for traveling......or....just living in our brave new world.....at least you got there.....
