Regent pulls a fast one

My wife and I have taken several Regent cruises and have been extremely pleased with them. They are pricey, but for what you pay, you get (got) a lot! It was always worth it to put out the extra money for the cruise, as you don't get nickel-dimed on everything and it is such a smooth experience.

However...

Regent has just changed their rate structure, and not for the better.

Before, the fare included airfare (Business Class for international flights) and transfers, in addition to all the other stuff.

The NEW fares are split into three categories:

All-Inclusive Cruise Fare [$$$] - all the great things you used to get (minus airfare and transfers)

Ultimate All-Inclusive Fare [$$$$] - same as above, but includes Economy Class airfare and transfers (previously standard), and a $500 private chauffeur credit.

Ultimate All-Inclusive Fare w/Business Class Upgrade [$$$$$] - same as above, but includes Business Class airfare.

I'm afraid my wife and I will be rethinking who we wish to cruise with now. Not such an attractive option anymore.

I'm no expert on luxury class and boutique cruise lines, I'm more of a mass market cruise upgraded to top tier type of gal, so what I'm stating is more or less an opinion.

If the new pricing tiers came out on or around July 1st of this year it has more to do with the USA "Truth in Pricing" law concerning transportation ticketing and accommodations than an actual business model of any single line or cruise company.

So unless any of these cruise lines provide charter or own an airline (or even controlling interest in one that they can dictate pricing) you will be seeing this method of pricing throughout the industry.

They're not the only ones doing that. Silversea, Seaborne and some of the small boutique super yacht lines developed the same models. I think its a way to get new cruisers into their market space.

It must be an NCLH thing; Oceania has also pulled its included airfare.

Thanks for sharing! Sorry to hear that they have changed their pricing so you are no longer willing to consider them.
