MY PREDICTION CAME TRUE...

The CDC is a Federally funded "agency" under the Dept of Health and Human Services...and as such is answerable to the PRES. Its "funding is subject to the same games all such agencies have to play...take away their $$, and guess what happens... so far, no one is going out of their way to challenge what they say, except to attack them for daring to dispute COVID information. Their periodic announcements haven't been particularly helpful to the current occupant. To be clear, if the Pres wanted to ignore them, or shut them down, the people who work there would be looking for new jobs. To their credit, they put up with it and managed to dodge several bullets...poor choice of words probably.. So first, we have to agree on what "the government" means.

The number of folks who refuse to get the vaccine, now and ever, is staggering....up to and including health care workers who ought to know better.

The new occupant will probably reduce the number of "anti-vaxers" (I like that) by banging away at it in a more positive fashion. But they, like the bug, will always be with us. Always....and after enough people get the vaccine, for long enough, we'll find out just how effective it REALLY is. I suspect its gonna be an annual thing...

Actually, you think the general public cares what happens to cruise lines? or to people who have nothing better to spend their $$ on than cruising? The cruise lines managements are the only ones who squawk loud enough to be heard, because most of them are publicly traded..take a look at what their share price was a year+ ago, compared to where they are now.. their debt load is now enormous.....but even that won't matter, because buying them NOW is buying a bargain....IF they survive long enough to get out from under the label of "floating petri dish of infection...Other than the executives up on mahogany row, virtually no one else who crews these ships is American....

So, no politician (the real gov't) is going to stick their necks out to bless the resumption of cruising as we once knew it....with or without the vaccine......

Hmmmmm..... I did not know that. I just assumed that since their web address is "CDC-gov" that it was a gov't agency. So if they're not the gov't, where do they get the authority to shut down a major industry like the cruise lines? There has to be someone standing behind them with the big stick. Let that entity make the call, and take the arrows.

As to them being too busy, I'm sure they could spare a lawyer or two to deal with any litigation. They have more of them than the amount of M&M's that Mars Chocolates produces in a week.

Also, I could be wrong, but I have a tough time envisioning armed anti-vaxers storming the gangways to get on board.

As to the soon to be new person in charge, I think he will be all for the idea that all cruisers need to be vaccinated prior to boarding, being the COVID Crusader that he is.

I agree, but the CDC aint the gov't....no matter what they say. and the gov't is a tad busy at the moment. Besides, the "gov't" can't stop its own members from showing up with guns, or even force members to wear masks...as evidenced by what happened 1/6 during the siege. We shall see what happens when someone else is in charge....

I really think the cruise lines would like to make it mandatory that all passengers be vaccinated prior to boarding, however, I'm sure someone in our litigious society would take them to court for infringing on their rights.

Better if the lines got the CDC to mandate it. Let the govt fight it out with the anti-vaccine crowd. It's the least they could do after all the hoops they're making the cruise lines jump through, and also leaving them high & dry with the bailouts.

I agree...believe this is one of the easier problems to solve...course it begs the question of some kind of national database to track it all..you got which shot from which company? when? when's the second one? your second one falls in the middle of a cruise?..on and on it goes...but we're moving forward instead of standing still...and at the moment thats an improvement.
